Community Service Program

Doing our part to Help Our Community

As part of our commitment to community involvement, the Seaside Seabird Sanctuary has adopted a Community Service Program. In partnership with the local court system, the Seaside Seabird Sanctuary's Community Service Program provides constructive and proactive opportunities for individuals to work off their court-ordered community service hours. The program is an alternative to incarceration for minor criminal offences, allowing individuals to work-off their court fines by performing duties around the Sanctuary such as general gardening maintenance (raking, pulling weeds, trimming trees and shrubbery), washing benches, cleaning bird cages, folding laundry, sweeping and mopping floors, painting, etc.

Community Service Program Enrollment Requirements:

  • Participants must complete at least 8 hours of community service at the Sanctuary per week to remain in the program.
  • Applicants with animal cruelty or abuse charges are not eligible for the program.
  • Participants with drug charges are not eligible to fulfil their hours in the Sanctuary's Avian Hospital, and must fulfill their hours elsewhere in the Sanctuary.
  • All participants must be 18 years of age or older to be eligible for the Community Service Program.
  • All applicants must posses a valid State issued drivers license, state issued ID, or U.S. passport.
  • All applicants must sign a confidentiality agreement and Sanctuary release form releasing the Sanctuary of any responsibility for injury or illness.
  • All participants must abide by the Sanctuary's dress code and code of conduct.
  • Children and/or any other persons are not permitted to accompany the participant during their scheduled community service time.
  • A participants performance can be revaluated at any time, and their enrollment in the Community Service Program can be terminated at the discretion of Sanctuary management at any time.

*The Seaside Seabird Sanctuary is a drug and alcohol free workplace.
